Product Introduction
The 5-inch silicon carbide sanding discs use high-purity black silicon carbide as the abrasive material. Silicon carbide is a sharp, hard abrasive that fractures during use, continuously exposing new cutting edges. This property makes these discs particularly suitable for hard, brittle materials such as stone, glass, and ceramics. Compared to aluminum oxide discs, silicon carbide discs provide a faster cutting action on stone surfaces.
Backing and Attachment
These discs feature a velour (cloth) backing with a hook & loop attachment system. The cloth backing provides flexibility, allowing the disc to conform to curved stone edges and contoured surfaces without tearing. The hook & loop backing enables quick disc changes on random orbital sanders. The attachment is secure during use, yet the disc can be peeled off easily when replacement is needed.
Wet and Dry Sanding Capability
These sanding discs are designed for both wet and dry sanding. Dry sanding is suitable for general material removal and surface preparation. Wet sanding offers several advantages for stone finishing: reduced dust, lower surface temperature, and a finer scratch pattern. When used with water, the waterproof backing prevents delamination. Users can simply spray water onto the stone surface or dip the disc during sanding.
